August 19-23

Hello Parents:

If you have not electronically signed the user agreement, safe school, cyber bullying, and computer acceptable use policies online, please do so as soon as possible. These are necessary for students to use the computer during school time.

Directions:
  • Log into your parent Power School account  (You may need to create one of these. This will require you knowing your child's 600 number, which you can obtain from our school secretary.)
  • On the left hand side of the screen, select forms from the menu.
  • Read each policy, and scroll to the bottom. You will need to click the drop down menu to select accept or decline. Then click the sign button.
  • **You will only need to do this for one of your students, and it will carry over to your other children.
Here's What's Happening In...

Math:
We are working in Chapter 1. We will use properties of multiplication and addition to solve problems. We will also be working with order of operations, the distributive property, and powers of 10.  Watch for graded math to come home. If students missed problems, I strongly encourage them to fix the problem, so they can learn from their mistakes. We have been completing the odds as a class and doing the evens independently.

CKLA:
We are reading Pegasus for a Summer. Students are also learning about personal narrative genre, and will begin writing a personal narrative this week describing the best vacation they have ever been to. They are also learning parts of speech and will learn about literary elements.
Students should be reading at least 20 minutes ever night.

SCIENCE:
Students will begin learning about heredity. They will learn about genes, inherited and environmental traits, as well as record some of their own traits and map genealogy.

HISTORY:
We are learning about Columbus and his voyage to the U.S. Students will also be learning about Spain and the settling of the first colonies.
